HURRICANE RIVER CAMPGROUND

 Campgrounds are no longer first-come first-serve. All reservations must be made online at recreation.gov

Hurricane River Campground is located 12 miles west of Grand Marais on H-58.  The campground has eleven sites in the upper loop including one accessible site for campers with a disability and ten sites in the lower loop by Lake Superior including one accessible site for campers with a disability . Hurricane River is often full during July and August and holiday weekends.  The best time to obtain a site is mid to late morning.  The campground has water, pit toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings.  A 1.5 mile trail from the lower loop leads to the Au Sable Light Station.  Please contact the headquarters for schedule accessible tours.  There is a fee for overnight camping.  Holders of the America the Beautiful Access Pass receives a 50% discount 

Accessible campsites for campers with a disability are provided at each campground and are reserved for campers with a disability until 6 p.m. each evening. If, after 6 p.m. they are not filled, other campers may occupy the accessible campsite for that night only.  Campsite should be vacated by 10 AM the next morning.  Campers do not have to be in the accessible campsite to receive the pass discount.

Food and Odors Attract Bears

ALL food, beverages, cooking equipment, toiletries, food containers, and pet food MUST be locked in a hard-sided vehicle at any time - DAY or NIGHT - when not in immediate use.  Garbage must be placed in trash cans.  Violation of these regulations may result in a $50 fine.
