The Great Northern Railway reached Belton in the latter part of 1891.  Among the early homesteaders were Milo B. Apgar and Charles Howe.  Apgar, reportedly having come over Marias Pass with his belongings in a two-wheeled cart, settled on the spot that was later to bear his name, the present Village of Apgar.

As the land was impossible to farm, Apgar and Howe soon began to build cabins as a means of offering overnight accommodations for visitors and local miners.

Some of the original cabins are still standing and are now a part of the Apgar Village Lodge.  Cabin #21 of this group was Milo B. Apgar’s first home.

"Apgar Village is serviced by the Orange and Blue routes. In Apgar Village you will find a variety of gift shops, a restaurant, camp store, and lodging. The Apgar Visitor Center and Apgar Backcountry Office is also located here where you can speak with a ranger to plan your visit and learn all about the wonders of Glacier National Park.
